Nutraceutical Sciences - Are Vitamin Supplements Good For You?

There are many reasons why one would wish to take the output of the nutraceutical sciences industry and be grateful for it. Not only does their industry include anything from skin moisturises to bodybuilding powders; it is also responsible for one of the most lucrative industries in Western civilisation - vitamin supplements.
These have increasingly become an important part of Western diets. Many people take vitamin supplements because they have been instructed to do so by their doctor, specialist or consultant. Often dietary specialists will need to give recommendations to their patients to ensure that they are getting the necessary dietary requirements throughout their entire range of recommended foods. Sometimes, a patient will be unable to eat certain foods because of a condition that they are suffering from. These foods may contain essential vitamins and therefore, the nutraceutical sciences industry will have stepped in to manufacture a replacement supplement that does contain the necessary vitamins that the patient needs, but without the toxins that any food in its natural state might contain.
Of course, not everyone who has a list of vitamin supplements on their shopping list requires them as part of their diet. The majority of people who eat a well rounded, balanced diet don't need to supplement their diets with additional vitamins from the nutraceutical sciences industry. There is the possibility that a person can overdose on vitamins - like most things in life the phrase 'too much of a good thing' springs to mind.
Nutraceutical sciences can produce quality vitamin supplements which to many patients are a great way to ensure a balanced diet when it might otherwise be impossible to do so. For those with a balanced diet from normal and natural foods, vitamin supplements are not necessary, and they could, in certain circumstances, have the opposite to the desired effect.
